How to join the NIHCO
Who may join: NIH employees, contractors, and their families are encouraged. Involvement with NIH is not mandatory, however. Members of the general community are welcome.
Rehearsals will be on average of every two weeks (weekly as
concerts approach). Rehearsals are usually at Saint Mark
Presbyterian Church on Old Georgetown Road. Unless announced
otherwise, rehearsals will be from 7:15 to 9:15 PM. Please bring a
stand with you if you have one available. A limited number of
stands are available at rehearsals.
There are also numerous chamber music opportunities, including
concerts and informal rehearsals.
The NIH Community Orchestra prides itself on being a relaxed, friendly environment that is home to a lot of great music making. Get to know some good music! Get to make new friends!!
Audition information: Relax. We do not do auditions.
To become a member of the NIHCO, we ask that you join us for a few rehearsals and see if you feel comfortable--in other words, we ask you to audition us.
Members are asked to join the R&W (Recreation and Welfare) association at NIH. Annual dues are $7 and entitle the member to additional benefits. You may join either through the orchestra or through the NIH R&W office (or any HHS office).
Annual orchestra dues are $20 ($10 collected twice a year).
How to join:
We have become one of the Yahoo! groups. You may join
○ If you are currently active with the orchestra or one of its affiliate organizations
○ If you have been a past member of the orchestra
○ If you are thinking of becoming active with the orchestra
○ If you are a family member or significant other of a member of the orchestra
We ask that people not join just for the sake of joining a musical group—this is not a discussion forum, but an active performing organization based in the northern suburbs of Washington, DC, USA. Our group's purpose is to be a communication network on matters regarding the orchestra, its musicians and its auxiliary ensembles.Most of the important information is conveyed through the NIHCO Yahoo! group.
To join the NIHCO Yahoo! group:
● Go to http://groups.yahoo.com
● In Find a Yahoo! Group type NIHCO and hit enter
● You will likely want the first one (but feel free to join whatever you wish)
● Click the Join this Group button
If you already have a Yahoo! ID and password, you are most of the way there—simply enter them in the appropriate blanks. One of the moderators will then approve your membership.
If you do not have a Yahoo! ID and password, please do the following:
● Click the Sign Up link
● Fill in the information and hit enter—you will have created your Yahoo account (it also comes with an email address—more about that later)
● It will then return you to a “Join the Group” page
○ The default settings will probably be OK for your purposes
○ If you are new, please make a note of what instrument you play and any other relevant information
● One of the moderators will approve your membership shortly
You do not need to use the Yahoo email account if you
choose another email address as your primary account. It doesn't seem to
collect a lot of spam, so it is probably safe if you do go with the Yahoo
address.
If you wish, you may edit your membership profile and a Yahoo 360! account, but they are not necessary for inclusion in the list (if you do, please include at least your instrument—sometimes members contact other members for ad hoc ensembles, etc.). You may choose to upload a picture, etc., but again, this is optional.

How to join
